Location. The Connaught hotel occupies a late- Victorian redbrick building in upmarket Mayfair in central London, England. Hyde Park, and Bond Street's designer shopping are three blocks away. Oxford Street, the famous shopping street, is five blocks away, as is Bond Street Underground station. Buckingham Palace and West End theatres are within half-a-mile of the hotel.

Hotel Features. With its sweeping mahogany staircase, oil paintings, fireplaces and hand-tufted carpets, The Connaught evokes an English country house. The hotel has a domed glass ceiling six storeys above the stairwell, and a ratio of two staff per guest.

The intimate Grill Room serves traditional European food. MENU at The Connaught restaurant, overseen by Michelin- starred chef Angela Hartnett, offers modern European and English dishes. A table in its kitchen can be booked for a tasting menu. The Connaught Bar has carved wood fireplaces and an ornate ceiling, and serves light international dishes. The Red Room, with comfortable armchairs, offers afternoon tea overlooking Carlos Place. Oak panelling and leather chairs decorate the American Bar, and drinks are served alfresco on The Terrace.

The Connaught has a gym, and guests can use the spa at nearby partner hotel, Claridge's, on a complimentary basis.

Guestrooms. The 192 air-conditioned guestrooms have cream-coloured bed linen, striped wallpaper, wooden headboards, floral curtains and antique furniture. Each room is serviced by a butler, summoned by a keypad. All rooms have dial-up Internet ports, minibars, safes and cable television. Marble bathrooms have either bath/shower combinations or separate showers and baths, and complimentary toiletries.

Expert Tip. Just one block east of The Connaught hotel is London's Berkeley Square, a great place to relax on a bench and watch the world go by.

From Heathrow Airport (LHR):
Distance to The Connaught is 17 miles, approximately 50 minutes' drive.

Getting there. The Heathrow Express train is the quickest way into London. It departs from the airport every 15 minutes, and takes 15 minutes to reach Paddington Station in central London. The journey is non- stop and costs 14.50 GBP. Paddington is on the Hammersmith and City, District and Circle, and Bakerloo lines of London's Underground (Tube). Additionally, the airport is on the Piccadilly line of the Underground, which runs directly to Kings Cross, Leicester Square, Knightsbridge, and Green Park underground stations. The journey to central London takes approximately one hour, and trains depart every 10 minutes. A one-day travel pass costs 6.30 GBP, including travel to Heathrow (in zone 6). Black taxis cost approximately 50 GBP to central London. Coaches operate to London Victoria and the rest of the UK, and the airport is also served by local buses. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. The Connaught hotel is five blocks from Bond Street Tube station (Central and Jubilee lines). The London Underground (Tube) and buses are the easiest ways to travel within London. Single tickets are expensive, but an electronic Oyster card offers a cheaper fare. Oyster cards can be purchased from ticket offices for 3 GBP (refundable). Daily or weekly travel passes are the most economical way to travel, and are valid on buses, trams, trains, and DLR, as well as on the Underground. Black taxis are available on the streets, but can be expensive. Driving is not recommended for visitors and a congestion charge zone is operated in central London.
